Dawn Diaz is used to saving people from emergencies. For 20 years, she was a paramedic for the New York Fire Department. During those two decades, she says there was a burning hole in her that she couldn’t quite put out.
It wasn’t until she confronted her inner trauma of being in domestic violence relationships, and learning how to help others in the same situations, that she says she truly found peace.
Since 2009, she has been an award-winning motivational speaker and CEO of the non-profit Milagros Day Worldwide. Last year, she also founded the annual Brooklyn Bridge Mother’s Day Walk in New York City, bringing nearly 300 people to walk across the bridge in the celebration of women. This year’s walk will take place on Mother’s Day, May 12.
