Portia Shipman lost her friend Sherri Denese Jackson to domestic violence. She describes how Sherri got caught in an abusive relationship and used the court system to secure a 50B order. Sherri was granted this order, and on the same day she received it, her abuser came to her house after court and murdered her. This highlights why it is so dangerous for us to leave.
Determined to not let her friend’s death be for nothing, the Sherri Denese Jackson Foundation was created. The Foundation provides services for victims of domestic violence in the Greensboro, NC area. In addition to services typically offered, the Foundation also has a workshop for those who have lost a loved one to domestic violence to help them not only cope with their loss but help others as well.
One more thing, Portia Shipman is also a survivor of domestic violence.
