1980. This is not a random place to start, and I did not choose this year because it was nice, even one. Sometimes, when some things hit you, you don’t forget. I was young, but I was just starting to learn how important music would prove to be for the rest of my life. Some people can take it or leave it, but what I learned from being with Kevin was that it was a big part of what made me feel alive. Being forced to listen to what he wanted me to was yet one more contributing factor to the emotional death he forced upon me.
But that isn’t what this series is going to be about. Nope, ladies and gentlemen. This is going to be peppered throughout my blog. And being that it is so important to me, I am going to subject you to my favorite top 5 songs from every year of my life up until now. Why? Because it’s part of me, and there isn’t anyone to stop me anymore, never again. Because after all the darkness, continuing to find more light only brings me more back to life. And the point of me being here is to share that with you all.
So welcome to When the Beats Strike: My Life in Music 1980. The year of mistaking the skunk for a cat, discovering fireflies, and the start of a life-long obsession with the color red. The only thing I will tell you about the songs you will see here…. Don’t be shocked by the unexpected. Don’t get comfortable with a pattern, because there will not be one. As I get older, the random increases. Enjoy!
